The Most Important Question to Build a More Fulfilling Life
Do you ever jump in your car on a weeknight, left your GPS off, and just drove off into the sunset — seeking to get lost? Once you’re lost, your only goal is to find your way back.
It’s one of my favorite things to do, driving. It eases my mind after a long day. It allows my nervous system to go onto autopilot. It stimulates my brain without the frenetic noise and constant visual shifting of a digital screen.
When I get lost I have one strategy. And it’s the same strategy I use to constantly ensure I’m on the right path toward my fulfillment. I ask myself one question:
Am I going in the right direction?
Often the complexity of the world, the variety of choices, and the pressures of what people say we “should” do make it extremely difficult to find the path to our fulfillment. It can be paralyzing. However, if we just allow the difficulty of the task to paralyze us, then we risk spending our whole lives going to our 9–5. We risk spending our whole lives with someone who we don’t really connect with. We risk a life of dullness.
That’s a lot to risk.
However, by asking ourselves if we are going in the right direction we are doing two things:
